The Mighty Bao Chuan Full-size reproduction of a Zheng He’s treasure ship – one of up to 40 in his vast fleet – stocked with reproductions of the gifts they carried from the Ming emperor to foreign rulers and tribute sent in return.

Project Description

This 30,000-sf new museum explores the history of trade and travel on Southeast Asian waterways. Immersive and interactive exhibits interpret the adventures of Zheng He’s massive 15th-century fleet, the thousand-year history of the Maritime Silk Route, ninth-century navigation and ship building, and the economic, cultural and social exchange brought about by this early form of global trade. Maritime trade patterns and maritime archaeology are interpreted through artifacts recovered from Southeast Asian shipwrecks.
