Insectarium Gallery View

Project Description

This new wing of AMNH includes an Insectarium, Vivarium, Collections Core, and Library Exhibits. Featuring displays of live insects, the 5,000-sf Insectarium introduces visitors to Earth's most diverse and abundant animal group through an interpretive framework of insect behaviors that explores the ways a wide range of insects eat, communicate, reproduce and pollinate, among other topics.  Exhibits highlight the role of insects in human health and native insects of NYC. Digital and hands-on interactives, and large-than-life insect models engage visitors of all ages. A new 2-500-sf Butterfly Vivarium features free-flying live butterflies in a lush living landscape where visitors can discover the butterfly life cycle, interact with butterfly experts and use interactive microscopes to explore butterfly morphology, The two-story 2,500-sf Collections Core features arrays of specimens from the collections exploring the role of research at AMNH. Research Library exhibits interpret scholarship and scientific discovery at the Museum.
